One of my goals for 2009 is to improve my health. So when I came across the Environment Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database I was intrigued. Here is their description of their site.
Skin Deep pairs ingredients in more than 1,000 products against 50 definitive toxicity and regulatory databases, making it the largest integrated data resource of its kind. Why did a small nonprofit take on such a big project? Because the FDA doesn’t require companies to test their own products for safety.
Here are the categories in their database:
- Skin Care
- Hair Care
- Eye Care
- Nail Care
- Baby Care
- Oral Care
If you’re anything like me, you’ll spend a good bit of time looking up all of your cosmetics and such. I’m amazed at just how toxic so many of these items are. I think it’s time for me to search out some non-toxic makeup.
