Book Review: Fearless By Max Lucado

Book Description:

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They’re talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn’t it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less.

Can you imagine your life without fear?

My Review:

The basic message of this book is that we should trust in God and not live our lives in fear. The book covers all kinds of different types of fear and gives real life examples and relevant bible verses. In this day and age there is a lot to be afraid of in the world, but what does your fear really accomplish?

I have to say that really enjoyed this book. I am the type of person who believes that things do happen for a reason and that there is no point in worrying about things that are out of your control. Still, there is some fear and worry in my life. It’s very hard not to fear something, especially once you become a parent. Yet Fearless was able to offer me a new perspective on trying to live life without fear.

Fearless was what I would consider a quick and easy read. It even read much like a conversation with a good friend. I was able to read it in a weekend while fitting my reading time in around my other activities. Even if you don’t have a lot of time to read, the information is presented in small enough chapters that you could easily read one chapter a night and be finished in about two weeks.

Will I now be living a fearless life? Probably not, but I will continue to strive to live my life without fear.
